Funny character voices with a serious message

I was delighted when I was approached to voice the Spanish versions of 11 short animations addressing the widespread Zika virus epidemic. The films feature talking mosquitoes and use humour as a way of drawing the audience in and encouraging them to engage with the subject. There were several mosquito characters and the exaggerated voices help to distinguish one from the other and set the humorous tone of this campaign. The resulting films are a deceptively lighthearted and effective way of addressing this serious global issue.

Chocolate Moose Media's award winning campaigns Have brought attention to many serious global concerns and are recognised for making a difference to the lives of many around the world. Led by renowned social innovator, director and humanitarian Firdaus Kharas, they produce animation, documentaries, videos and television series designed to educate, entertain, and change social and individual behavior. Animation can be a very effective and powerful medium as Firdaus Kharas explains: The same simplicity which gives animation its mainstream appeal also imbues it with a universality and impact which make it an effective tool in spreading human rights messages throughout the world. In live action films the actors will inevitably portray a specific ethnicity, culture and social status. Animated characters, on the other hand, can be deliberately designed not to to have any specific traits allowing them to have appeal across ethnic, religious and class boundaries.
