This is an idea for a children’s book I had with my partner. Read in Spanish, it is a good example of a narrative style.
I love recording to a brief but it’s also great to record my own stories for myself, to have the creative freedom to do my own thing. It presents its own challenges and I am my own greatest critic when it comes to getting the performance right.
Doing my own production is really liberating. Additional audio material can have a huge influence on the style of the piece.
In this case I used sound effects to enhance the quirkiness already there in the illustrations. It allowed me keep my reading fairly straight faced, though cheerful!
My reading is greatly influenced by the visuals; A picture tells a thousand words and it is true that in this case, the illustrations are my brief. I can immediately determine what sort of story it is, the mood and the tone it should have and the age group it is aimed at.

Sally es una historia que surgió como idea de libro para niños que tuve con Josh.
Es mi trabajo y mi pasión grabar el guión para un clientes, pero también es fundamental para mi grabar las historias que escribo o los relatos de autores que selecciono. Esto me da la plena libertad de producir mi trabajo. Una libertad que tiene sus propios desafíos porque me exige ser mi propio crítico, y a veces suelo ser muy estricta conmigo misma.
Por ejemplo en esta grabación de Sally y sus lentes de domingo, el sonido seleccionado tiene que combinar exactamente con el dibujo, además de ser un sonido especifico que forme parte de la narración de la historia.
Me apasiona realizar mi propia producción, y descubrir a través de sonidos, la influencia que puede tener en el estilo de la narración. La ilustración es fundamental para lograr el tono adecuado en la historia. En este caso, me permite mantener una lectura recta pero alegre al mismo tiempo. Las ilustraciones determinan qué tipo de historia es, el estado de ánimo, el tono que debe tener y el grupo de edad al que está dirigido.
